Dear Parent/Guardian:
It is imperative that if you suspect your child/children are sick, you keep them home from school. Please do not give them Tylenol, Acetaminophen, Advil, Ibuprofen, Motrin, etc. and send them to school.
There have been too many incidents where a child/children will say they do not feel well, but there are no signs of temperature or other symptoms. Sometimes fever is the only symptom that will show an illness. If you have given them Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, etc. in the morning, they probably will not spike a fever until the afternoon, meanwhile infecting everyone they come in contact with.
The same holds true for throat cultures. Please keep your child/children home until you receive the results of both the rapid and the 24-hour tests.
Once your child/children are diagnosed with strep throat, they must be home on medication for 24 hours. Your child/children must be without fever and on NO fever reducing medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
If your child/children tests positive for COVID, please follow the NJDOH guidelines.
If your child wakes up with a red, itchy, draining eye, please keep them home and see a physician to rule out conjunctivitis. If diagnosed as such, please keep home for 24 hours while under treatment.
If your child has an injury requiring an orthopedic device, please see the Injury tab.
Lastly, if your child/children have vomited or had diarrhea last evening, or before school, please keep them home at least 24 hours until free of either without the use of medication.
As a reminder, if you have new phone numbers (home/work/cell), please update Genesis accordingly or send the new numbers in a written note so the latest information is on file.
If your child/children are going to be absent, please enter it into Genesis (see attendance tab for detailed directions) or call the school your child attends and press "1" for attendance. Please state your child's name, teacher, today's date, and the reason for the absence. No homework requests are to be left on this line. Call the school and press "2" for the office for homework requests.
I appreciate your cooperation and hope this will help keep your children healthy.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Cammarata
