Undoubtedly, science education is crucial in making sense of today’s world. Regardless of career choices, today’s citizens are immersed in a global society charged with managing unprecedented issues. Students need the ability to make informed decisions about health care, the environment, and other world-wide matters. Science education is at the heart of developing these decision making skills, therefore creating innovative citizens who will lead and create jobs in the future.
The Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District has developed a curriculum guide aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards which incorporates the philosophies of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the National Research Council’s Framework for K-12 Science Education. The primary goal of our curricular program is to develop science literacy in all students. Throughout the science program, students will be engaged in critical thinking activities to foster the knowledge and skills necessary to make sound scientific decisions.
By concentrating on the NGSS’ science and engineering practices, students will further develop the ability to understand the nature of science and participate in activities which will enhance their decision-making skills. Engineering is incorporated into every topic to ensure students are presented with a broad range of real-world challenges which require creative problem solving and participation in the design process. The implementation of this curriculum will further develop our students’ college and career readiness skills.
