Greetings from Mrs. Pepchinski and Mr. Kivor

Dear Milford Brook Families:
On behalf of the Milford Brook staff, we would like to extend our warmest greetings to Milford Brook families and the Manalapan community. We look forward to collaborating with you throughout the course of the school year to ensure that our students are afforded experiences premised on the basic vision of providing “Excellence in Education.” Here at Milford Brook, our learning community strives to provide students with authentic, enriching, and engaging educational opportunities to ensure that students are “learning and growing day by day.”
It is strongly believed that all students when provided appropriate instruction targeted toward their unique needs can achieve high levels of individualized academic success. In order to effectively meet the needs of each individual learner, it is essential that a variety of pedagogical strategies and techniques are consistently implemented in each classroom year after year. In addition, it is vital that instruction is differentiated and individual student needs are targeted and consistently monitored to ensure growth and progress for each student.
We cannot continue to take the path frequently traveled upon by educators of the past to ensure students just learn the curriculum and meet the standards outlined. The twenty-first century has presented us the challenge of guaranteeing that our students are ready to compete locally, nationally, and globally as intellectual, social, and emotional leaders of the world. With the successful implementation of the Common Core Standards in ELA and mathematics and state standards in science and social studies as our primary focus, our goal is to ensure that we take the path less traveled by and act as forward thinkers to ensure that all students achieve and can apply their learning and skills to real-life situations. Our mission is to cultivate a community of learners amongst our staff and students and to teach them that for any problem or obstacle that exists that they can effectively provide the solution. Failure is not an option; students must learn, and our teachers must be supported in this process.
Continual focus is centered on ensuring the success of the “whole child.” What does this mean? A child cannot just be supported academically, but his/her social and emotional needs must be nurtured also in a safe and mutually respectful environment. Our students must be reminded of and held to a standard of high expectations, not simply because we have to do so, but because each and every one of them is capable of meeting the standards to which they are held. Throughout the process, however, they need to be consistently reminded how smart and capable they are; we are their cheerleaders for the successes shared and through the obstacles that need to be overcome. Our children have a right to learn and no one will keep another from learning. Students must treat one another with shared, mutual respect, and they must learn to take responsibility for their individual actions. Our mission for our students is to remind them on a daily basis to give the absolute best of themselves each and every day and to focus on one another as unique individuals who provide a special perspective about life from which we can all learn. Our ultimate goal is to create a culture where our school community helps our students build their self-esteem and teaches them how to contribute to the successes of themselves and of one another.
A successful school environment cannot exist without the positive influence of, reciprocal interaction between, and shared partnership with the community and families that support our students each and every day. Parental involvement is essential to the success of our students; even more integral, however, is ensuring that the school effectively communicates with parents and the larger community and that we embrace their positive influence and support. Parent involvement must be fostered from the time students first enter the school; their involvement is not only valued, but it is a key component to the school’s overall success.
On any given day, it can be thrilling, frightening, complex, frustrating, challenging, hectic, intense, or riotously funny to be an educator. However, it is undoubtedly amongst one of the most rewarding experiences one can engage in as we have the ability to make a difference in the lives of each and every child with whom we interact.
